Unlocking the Major Message of the Minor Prophets with Seminary Now

Awhile back a good friend of mine released a course based on her book on Seminary Now. Since I had read the book multiple times, I didn’t really think too much about it. After all, I can talk with her any time. If I have a question, I just call or text!

However, I can’t always do that. Recently, I’ve started doing more research around Paul and his writings. Since I wanted to be able to listen to some introductory material, I thought that Seminary Now would be a great place to start. I was right. I’ve been able to listen to introductory material from Michael Bird and Scot McKinght. They’re both top-notch NT scholars.

But Seminary Now’s lineup goes a lot further than introductions to Paul. They tackle a wide range of topics from Bible and theology to ministry, missions, and church history. Now they have a brand new course: The Minor Prophets.

One of the things that I love about this new course is that it features two fantastic OT scholars that I deeply respect. Both do great academic work. But that isn’t what is most important. They want the church to understand why these twelve books matter for believers today!

Together, Dr. Beth Stovell and Dr. Colin Toffelmire introduce not only the important interpretive issues, they help everyday people understand how and why these books are relevant. They show us how these books fit into Israel’s larger story and how they fit together as they explore each book and the key themes found across them. (Scholars often call the Minor Prophets the Book of the Twelve. Beth and Colin explain that, too.) By the end of this course, you’l understand why the so-called “Minor Prophets” aren’t so “minor,” after all. They have a major message that today’s church needs to hear!

Oh, and back to that friend’s course I mentioned? Carmen Imes now has two great courses that are worth checking out if you subscribe: Bearing God’s Name and Being God’s Image. So, whether it’s Carmen’s work, Scot McKnight’s, Michael Bird’s, or this fantastic new resource by Beth Stovell and Colin Toffelmire, you’re sure to benefit!
