Praying Scripture – 3/25/2020 – Lent

19 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Hebrew 10:19-25 (NIV)

Gracious and loving Father,
Thank You for sending your Son, our great high priest, who has sprinkled my heart, cleansing me from a guilty conscience and bringing forgiveness for my sins. Thank You for the gift of being able to approach Your throne with confidence through His blood. As I face uncertain days and difficult times, help me to hold unswervingly to the hope that I speak of to others; make my words to not simply words, rather write them on my heart that they may be deeply experienced. Help me to keep my eyes on You, the eternal One who is faithful to His people. Show me how I can encourage others despite the necessary distance we are facing. Prompt me to focus on them rather than myself. In moments of isolation, remind me that You will bring a day when we can meet as Your body once again. In the meantime, show me how to encourage others, serve others, and love others well. Above all of these things, Lord, I ask for Your deliverance and healing. Please bring this pandemic to a rapid end. Please heal those who are sick, whether in body or spirit. Please provide for those who are facing hardship as a result of quarantines or slowed economies and show me how You would have me be an instrument of Your love. May we, Your body, in some small way bring glory to Your name in this difficult time, showing others who You are. Deliver us, guard us, and guide us, Lord. In Your Son’s name I pray, Amen.
